Plan Your Journey & Booking Details

Logistics, pricing, and everything you need to know before we hit the streets.

  • Beyond a standard walking route, these journeys offer an informed narrative directly from the source. As the author of Colourful Hong Kong - Street Art Stories, I provide a deep-dive analysis of the scene’s evolution, artist inspirations, and the culture of the walls that a general guide cannot offer. While each established route is designed to showcase the most significant works in the district, I am happy to highlight specific artists or murals if you have a particular interest. Please let me know of any special requests ahead of time, and I will do my best to weave those into our scheduled walk.

  • For groups of three or more, I provide individual wireless receivers. This allows you the freedom to step back for the perfect photo or explore the full width of an alley while still hearing every detail of the street art stories. For smaller, more intimate pairings, we’ll simply walk and talk as we navigate the city's vertical landscape.

  • I’ll be at our designated meeting point, usually holding an iPad so you can spot me easily. I’ll also send my WhatsApp/contact number the day before we meet, just in case you have any trouble finding the location.

  • Absolutely! Many guests enjoy taking home a signed copy of Colourful Hong Kong – Street Art Stories. When you buy the book directly from me on-tour, you also receive an exclusive sticker pack featuring designs by 9 of the artists featured in the book. Since I personally bring the books to our meeting point, please let me know at least 12 hours in advance if you would like to reserve a copy so I can have it ready for you.

THE EXPERIENCE

  • To ensure I can prepare the best experience and check the latest ‘shifts’ in the ever-changing street art scene, I recommend booking at least 48 hours in advance. This allows me to verify that our established route is current and that the ‘street art stories’ we explore are up to date.

  • You can cancel or reschedule your tour free of charge up to 7 days before our walk. Cancellations within 48 hours of the start time are generally non-refundable, as I have reserved that time exclusively for your private group.

  • My tours are priced as a flat base rate for small private groups (1–3 guests) to ensure an intimate, high-quality dialogue:

    • Hidden Colours (2h): HK$2,000

    • Central’s Layers (2h): HK$2,000

    • The Local Canvas (3h): HK$3,000

    • The Full Canvas Deep Dive (4h): HK$4,000

  • Yes. To navigate the ‘tucked-away’ alleys and narrow ladder-streets comfortably, I limit private groups to a maximum of 8 people.

    • Additional Adults (17+):

      +HK$450 pp for 2 hrs

      +HK$500 pp for 3 hrs

      +HK$550 pp for 4 hrs

    • Youth (8–16):

      +HK$225 pp for 2 hrs

      +HK$250 pp for 3 hrs

      +HK$275 pp for 4 hrs

    • Children (Under 8): Free of charge

  • The fee covers my informed narrative as an author, the use of individual wireless receivers (for groups of 3+), and your instant-film memento. Please note that food, drinks, and incidental transport (such as a brief taxi or bus ride) are not included. My tours focus purely on the art and culture of the neighbourhoods, though I am always happy to point out my favourite local coffee spots or eateries along the route for you to enjoy after our walk.

  • Tipping is entirely at your discretion and is not expected for my private tours. However, I do recommend carrying some HKD cash or a topped-up Octopus card for small incidentals along the route, such as a quick coffee or a local snack at a spot that may not accept credit cards.

  • My primary focus is providing high-quality, private journeys tailored to your pace. However, I do occasionally host public group tours—often in conjunction with special events or festivals—which are a great option for solo travellers. These are announced periodically via my Instagram. If you’d like to be the first to know when the next public stroll is scheduled, please contact me to join the interest list.

PRICING, BOOKINGS & CANCELLATIONS

  • Since street art is a visual medium that relies on natural light, I recommend a morning or early afternoon start. Depending on the duration of your chosen journey, I suggest a starting time no later than 2:00 PM for the 4-hour Deep Dive or 4:00 PM for the 2-hour tours. This ensures we have enough daylight to capture the vibrant colours before dusk.

  • Please message or call me as soon as possible. Because these are private tours, I will wait for up to 30 minutes, but please note that we may need to shorten the route slightly to ensure we finish on time for any subsequent bookings.

  • Safety is the priority. If the Hong Kong Observatory issues a Typhoon Signal No. 8 or above, or a Red/Black Rainstorm Warning, the tour will be cancelled and any fees already paid will be fully reimbursed. For other instances of heavy rain, we can discuss a reschedule. In the case of light showers, the tour will proceed as planned—the city's alleys often take on a unique, cinematic quality in the rain.

  • Due to the unique ‘vertical landscape’ of Central and the Western District, our routes frequently navigate steep gradients, narrow alleyways, and historic ‘ladder streets’ (stone staircases). Unfortunately, this specific urban terrain means the tours are not accessible for wheelchairs or strollers.

  • While children often love the vibrant colours, please consider the nature of the experience. The routing involves significant climbing, and the narrative focuses heavily on storytelling and painting techniques. If your family enjoys a steady physical trek and an informed art discussion, they are very welcome—though the final decision on whether the pace is right for your children rests with you.

  • While I maintain professional insurance through my tour agency collaborations, participants are responsible for their own personal safety and travel insurance. By joining the walk, you acknowledge that we will be navigating public streets, steep staircases, and uneven gradients at your own risk. I kindly ask that you keep your wits about you and stay mindful of the unique urban environment as we explore.

LOGISTICS & TERRAIN

  • I am happy to host schools, community groups, or corporate teams for an in-depth stroll. With the use of an individual wireless audio system for every participant, I can accommodate larger groups while ensuring the narrative remains clear. Please note that larger groups move at a different pace; therefore, the distance covered may be more compact than my established private tours. I recommend a specialised, fixed route for these sessions. Please contact me directly to discuss a tailored group experience.

NOTE FROM ALEX

Why I Share These Stories

People often ask why I focus so deeply on Hong Kong’s street art. To me, these walls are more than just paint; they are a living, breathing diary of the city’s soul. Since 2010, I’ve been documenting these ephemeral works—from the early underground interventions to the massive festival murals that now define our skyline.

For years, I looked for a book that captured the heart of this scene, only to realise that a dedicated record simply didn't exist. I also saw so many incredible local artists whose work deserved more recognition. I decided to fill that gap myself, hoping to create more buzz and bring the attention these creators deserve to the forefront. This eventually led me to write Colourful Hong Kong – Street Art Stories

But as much as I love the written word, nothing compares to the energy of standing in front of a piece and seeing it in the context of the bustling 852. I don't just want to show you 'art'—I want to share the culture, the stories of the artists, and the local history that most people walk right past. My tours are about slowing down in this fast-paced city to see the layers of the streets through an insider’s lens.

Shall we walk?
