An Expert Eye on Hong Kong’s Creative Soul

Writing the first book on Hong Kong’s street art was a true labor of love. Today, I balance my work as an author and photographer with my favourite role: being your guide to the city’s streets. From the legacy of the 'King of Kowloon' to the newest murals in Central, I love acting as a bridge to the local art scene—whether it’s through the pages of my book or an easy-going walk through my favourite corners of the city. I’m here to share the stories behind the spray paint with you..

The Story Behind the Cover

"The book’s striking cover features 'Sham Shui Po 2070', a 2020 work by well-respected artist Sinic. Now based in Taiwan, Sinic first made his mark by fusing traditional calligraphy with urban lettering to create a distinct 'Eastern' style of graffiti writing.

While this specific piece leans into a retro-futuristic vision, it represents his evolution into figurative murals. Here, he reimagines the iconic rounded-corner buildings and pawn shop signs of Sham Shui Po through his vivid childhood memories, using muted tones contrasted by popping pinks and greens. This creates a nightly neon glow that perfectly anchors the book in the city’s authentic, yet ever-evolving, street heritage.
